Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a coal fuel system and related auxiliary fuel system to supply a boiler. The auxiliary fuel supply system is typically an oil system.The unit applies to individuals who work under supervision in the sugar milling industry.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply in the workplace.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Element: Prepare the fuel supply system for operation
  • Conduct pre-operational checks according to workplace procedures
  • Identify and control health and safety hazards according to workplace safety procedures
  • Select, fit and use personal protective equipment according to workplace safety procedures

  • Ensure primary and auxiliary fuel is available to meet combustion requirements according to workplace procedures

  • Operate the system according to operating procedures
  • Confirm performance is maintained within operating procedures
  • Ensure the work area is maintained according to workplace cleaning standards

  • Identify causes of abnormal performance in the operation
  • Take corrective action to rectify causes of abnormal performance
  • Implement emergency procedures according to health and safety
       
Element: Hand over fuel system operations
  • Maintain workplace records according to workplace procedures
  • Carry out handover according to workplace procedures
  • Ensure operators are aware of system and related equipment status at completion of handover
       
Element: Shut down the fuel supply system
  • Shut down the system according to operating procedures
  • Prepare the system for storage in shutdown mode according to operating procedures
  • Identify and report maintenance requirements according to workplace procedures
  • Store fuel to meet fuel requirements and workplace standards
